Description
A photograph can preserve the evidence and still get the story wrong.
Afterimage is the August installment of Kabal Monthly, a visual literary micro e-chap built from camera rolls, portraits, screenshots, deleted photographs, captions, profile pictures, and the versions of ourselves we leave behind on our phones.
Across thirteen pieces, Kabal Briar looks at the distance between what happened and what survived the crop. A beautiful dinner photograph keeps the light and loses the argument. A deleted image remains recoverable. A familiar face becomes something performed so often that even the camera begins expecting it.
Part photo archive, part prose-poetry collection, Afterimage explores the self-portrait as archive, witness, and ghost—memory after it has been edited, posted, resurfaced, and looked at one more time.
